                                                      Leak trouble shooting

Knowing the characteristics of water travel are key to finding leaks.

The path leaking water takes can be deceiving when traveling down beams and through walls.

Lots of home owner and contractors alike go into large projects to stop leak only to find that the roof or plumbing leaks are still there.

Unless you are sure you know where the leak is coming from you should always look toward the highest point.

The best way to locate any leak whether roofing or plumbing is to follow it to its absolute highest point.

roof leaking down beams Always follow leaks to a dry point. Always look up higher and higher. Do not be distracted by the spread of water or the water

you actually see at lower points. Figures below shows roof vent pipe flashing leak. Water falls from attic and hits a pipe brace,

bracing studs or floor and travels laterally.

Roofing and plumbing leaks are some of the more common reasons mold and mildew develop in a home.

Roofing leaks are also very capable of flooding basements as well as wetting walls.
